Throw Some D's On It: FELT Back With Third Disc

On The D's List: Actress Rosie Perez
"You got D's, motherfucker, D's, Rosie Perez . . ."
-- Kanye West, "Good Morning" (from Graduation)

FELT -- the collaborative rap duo of Slug and Murs -- have reunited once again for their third edition of their A Tribute to . . .  series, which are always dedicated to an underrated B-list actress. This time around, the third installment will be FELT 3: A Tribute to Rosie Perez. Production on the collection, due Nov. 17, is being handled by underground lyricist Aesop Rock. The set's first single is "Protagonists."

Slug and Murs have been recording under the FELT moniker since 2002. Their debut LP A Tribute to Christina Ricci and the follow-up FELT 2: A Tribute to Lisa Bonét were both slept-on indie-rap gems.

I love the FELT projects and I think A Tribute to Rosie Perez will probably be one of the best indie rap albums of 2009. But I'm a little apprehensive about Aesop Rock producing the LP. Some of his self-producing solo albums are not the most enjoyable listens. Aesop likes to get experimental with his sound, which works sometimes, but at other times, the music can be really boring. In general, the FELT albums are fun and enjoyable so the music should reflect that.

But we will have to wait and see what these guys are going to bring come November.

And for those of you who may not know who Rosie Perez is, check out these videos below, which shows why this multi-talented actress is such a "Fly Girl."

A Few Reasons . . . To Love Dwele

Soul Crooner Dwele

On the latest edition of Soulful Sunday, the good folks at KevinNottingham.com has put together a wonderful downloadable compilation dedicated to the smooth, mellow and head-nodding sounds of Dwele. I guarantee one of your favorite joints by the Detroit soul crooner is on the collection. I'm impressed with the inclusion of Dwele's cover songs like his remake of Stevie Wonder's "Too High,"  Earth, Wind & Fire's "That's The Way of the World" and Michael Jackson's "Startin Somethin'."

But there are a few glaring omissions: "A Few Reasons (Truth Pt. 2)" (via Sketches From a Man), "Old Lovas" (from Some Kinda...), "In the Rain" (Boney James' Shine LP) and "You" (his duet with Goapele on her Change It All LP).

All and all, this compilation is a worthy listen.

Recently, Dwele has been making some noise with his creative videos on his YouTube channel. After the jump, check out the D-man's clips including my personal favorite, "How I Deal" (Waitin' on Obama), which was filmed on the day (Jan. 19)  President Obama was sworn into office.

Three 6 Mafia 'Shake'-ing Up the Top 40 Charts

'Shake' It Fast: Three 6 Mafia

Memphis rap group Three 6 Mafia returns to the music charts with the Rodney Jerkins-produced "Shake My" (featuring Kalenna of Dirty Money), which is getting airplay on Top 40 Rhythm radio stations. The synth-pop club single debuted on the chart at No. 33, making this the Oscar-winning duo's fastest charting single of their 20-year career. The song is from Three 6 Mafia's upcoming disc Laws of Power, which hits stores Nov. 10.

Three 6 recently shot a music video for their much raunchier club track called "Lil' Freak (Ugh Ugh Ugh)" [Featuring Webbie] in their hometown of Memphis, Tenn. Rap website Memphisrap.com has all of the behind scenes footage and picures (*Click the link below).

Three 6 Mafia -- "Lil' Freak" (Ugh Ugh Ugh)"  [Featuring Webbie] [Explicit]

I have a lot of respect for Three 6 Mafia, but every since Juicy J and DJ Paul won their history-making Oscar for best Original Song ("It's Hard Out Here For a Pimp") in 2006, I haven't heard a decent song from them, yet. They keep rehashing that pussy-talk, crunk music shit and it's quite annoying.

I think celebrity and fame might have spoiled these guys.

But I'm not going to hate, I'll congratulate.

Bravo!

New Video: Raekwon – "House of Flying Daggers"

Raekwon's Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Part II has sprung more leaks than a baby wearing cheap diapers. So far, "œ10 Bricks"€ and "€œCatalina" have hit the web. After a couple listens, these two are not my favorite tracks on the LP. If "We Will Rob You" leaks, expect me to go fuckin' nutz because that's the true street banger [*pause*] on OB4CL Part II.

In the meantime, check out Rae's animated video for "House of Flying Daggers" (featuring Inspectah DeckGhostface Killah & Method Man). Although I would have preferred a performance video from Rae and the gang, this video is not that bad.

For your musical enjoyment, below are the songs that were released/leaked from Rae's upcoming joint, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Part II (due Sept. 8).
