Boyz II Men are a class act.
Rather than compete with today's R&B groups like Jagged Edge or, uh, Day 26(?) with saccharine hip-pop ballads, they have carved their own lane covering songs from the Motown era. Don't feel bad for them. The Philadelphia trio's Motown cover album A Journey Through Hitsville USA was nominated for a Grammy and the boys men have toured all around the world in support of that album.
Boyz II Men are back with a new album tentatively titled LOVE (due Nov. 17), which I'm going to presume is a collection of classic love ballads reworked by the guys.
The first single is B2M's reinterpretation of Journey's 1982 hit, "Open Arms." The track is produced by American Idol judge Randy Jackson, who was Journey's bassist and was involved in Mariah Carey remake of the song in 1996.
The Boyz's version is as eloquent as the original version and reminiscent of their indelible love ballad, "End of the Road."
