For legendary singer-songwriter Billy Preston (1946-2006).
Billy Preston, who scored No. 1 pop hits with "Nothing From Nothing" and "Will It Go Round in Circles," has died at the age of 59 in Scottsdale, Ariz. The keyboardist, who had suffered from kidney failure and other problems as a result of high blood pressure, also co-wrote the love standard, "You Are So Beautiful" (as sung by Joe Crocker). Billy, whose mentor was the late Ray Charles, also found fame performing alongside the likes of Sly and the Family Stone, Aretha Franklin, The Beatles, The Jackson Five and Quincy Jones, among many others. Billy is currently featured on Red Hot Chili Peppers' latest album, Stadium Arcadium (performing on "Warlocks"). Funeral arrangements are pending.

Lula Mae Hardaway, the mother who gave birth to soul icon Steve Wonder, has passed away from an undisclosed illness. Lula, who was born in 1932 and grew up impoverished, co-wrote a handful of Stevie's songs, including the hit "Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm Yours." Funeral services for Lula will be held on Thursday in Los Angeles at the West Angeles Church of God in Christ.
